Seems like everyone is bringing out Intel Atom based kit at the moment - I just stumbled accross this over at NewEgg in the USA:
The new Intel Atom based, MSI Wind PC barebones
Looks like it's powered by a DC 'brick' PSU and only has one case fan, so although not silent, it should be reasonably quiet.
This would make an ideal low cost Windows Home Server. Just add a single hard drive (with the option for another via a 5.25" to 3.5" bay adapter in the optical drive bay), and some RAM and you're away. It's cheap too at $150 USD. No sight of it in the UK yet though.

Interestingly whilst in Florida all the stores I visited had large and prominent displays of Blu-Ray films and little or no HD-DVD selections. This seems to be contradictory to what we're being lead to believe....
However, large displays of XB 360's were evident, whilst PS3 displays were limited or non-existant. For instance in the Virgin Mega Store in Downtown Disney, they had a large XB360 display with four live systems available to play on. The PS3 display was a single (non working) system tucked away near the rear of the store...

Just arrived back from an absolutely brilliant two week family holiday in Florida.
Whilst there I tried to find an HP EX475 WHS but sadly, no-one had any available. The stores I spoke to told me of massive demand for these beauties and that they were not sure they could fulfil all their pre-orders before Christmas. So it looks like this system is in as much demand as has been predicted and reported.

As I predicted a few years ago, Small Form Factor PCs have become `commodity` items. There are a few select companies that make really good products, meanwhile many cheap clones are being banged out of factories in China.
Tom`s Hardware has a review of four such Small Form Factor boxes which prove that small is not always beautiful.
Check it out here and live safe in the knowledge that if you're a Shuttle fan then you have nothing to worry about from these systems!

My favourite WHS website We Got Served has just received a production version of the EX475 Windows Home Server from Hewlett Packard.
Drool over the piccies here
I`m hoping to pick one of these up myself while over in the USA over the next few weeks as the price there is at least £100 lower than the UK.
